Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, held emergency talks with Real Madrid on Friday where he revealed to the Spanish champions that the player has an offer from a Premier League club.
According to Spanish radio station COPE, Mendes told Madrid’s hierarchy that Ronaldo is angered by the tax evasion charge levied against him and that he feels like he is being treated like a criminal.
Mendes also confirmed to Madrid that Ronaldo has ‘numerous offers’ on the table from clubs in the Premier League, France and China.
COPE report that Madrid were surprised by A Bola’s front page on Friday which broke the news that Ronaldo wanted to leave Madrid this summer and that his decision was ‘irreversible’.
A Bola broke the story that Ronaldo wants to quit Real Madrid.
Madrid are understood to be aware of Ronaldo’s frustration towards the tax evasion allegations but did not believe that the 32-year-old would be pushing to leave the club over the matter.
Ronaldo has been accused by Spanish prosecutors of evading €14.7 million (£13m) in tax between 2011 and 2014.
Madrid were quick to throw their support behind their all-time leading scorer, who has netted 404 goals in 393 games since joining the club, with a public statement which backed the striker to prove his innocence.
Ronaldo was asked about the accusations earlier this week and replied: ‘I have a clear conscience.’
Ronaldo played a key role in Madrid’s Champions League victory last season.
Madrid, meanwhile, are attempting to diffuse the situation.
Marca claim that Florentino Perez has urged the Portugal international to reconsider his position but, more crucially, the Madrid president will not stand in the player’s way if he wants to leave the club.
Manchester United have constantly monitored Ronaldo’s situation since he left Old Trafford in 2009, while Paris Saint-Germain failed with a move last summer.
