Harry Maguire says he wants to become Manchester United captain if he moves to Old Trafford

Harry Maguire believes he possesses all the necessary qualities to become Manchester United captain should he get his wish of moving to Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old is determined to leave the Foxes this summer and is understood to be frustrated by the club’s £85m valuation, which he considers to be prohibitive.

United have had one bid rejected for Maguire and Brendan Rodgers warned the Red Devils on Wednesday that the Foxes have a ‘cut-off point’ this summer where they will no longer consider bids for the defender.

Maguire remains hopeful that the deal will eventually go through and the Sun claim he sees himself as a future captain at the Theatre of Dreams.

The defender is said to have idolised Steve Bruce, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand during his childhood and wants to replicate that trio by getting the captain’s armband at United.

United’s last bid is believed to be around £20m short of Leicester’s £85m valuation of Maguire and the Red Devils are considering other options on the market.

Axel Tuanzebe looks set to stay at the club next season regardless of Maguire’s potential arrival but one of Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones could depart should the England international join.

Solskjaer has warned the club will not ‘overpay’ in the market this summer but United briefed last summer that they were prepared to better Liverpool’s £75m move for Virgil van Dijk should the right defender become available.
