“Liverpool shouldn’t win the Premier League because their fans will not stop ranting about it, they still talk about 2005 win like it was yesterday” – Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney ‘couldn’t bear’ Liverpool winning the Premier League ahead of Manchester City because their fans would never stop going on about it!
The Manchester United legend – who is currently playing in the USA for DC United – is delighted to be out of the country while United’s two bitter rivals fight it out for domestic glory.
Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola’s men are neck-and-neck at the top of the table but Rooney knows exactly who he wants to claim the spoils in the title race.
‘It’s a great reason to be out the country when those two are going head to head for the title,’ he told Talksport. ‘I hope Man City get over the line before Liverpool.
‘I couldn’t bear to see them win it, it would be a nightmare for any Evertonian.
‘I remember in 2005 they won the Champions League and they’re still talking about it now so it would be another 10 or 15 years of that!’
Rooney also praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the fine work he’s been doing at Old Trafford and expects him to be the only candidate for the full-time manager role.
‘He has gone in with simplicity and has brought belief back to the fans,’ the former Everton man added. He has made the place enjoyable again to go into work every day.
The staff around Carrington are enjoying working there again and that does rub off. ‘When you see the staff happy around the players, it makes it a happy environment to work in.
‘He is doing a fantastic job and I’m sure he is the only candidate for Manchester United to take that job and it will be great to see him get it and bring some of the players he wants to bring in and keep moving the club forward.’
