Manchester United are set to offer Anthony Martial a new bumper £45m-a-year deal to stay at Old Trafford. The Frenchman has been in scintillating form for the Red Devils, scoring four goals in his last six appearances.
Martial is out of contract at the end of the season, though United have the option of triggering a 12-month extension clause in his deal to tie him down to the club until 2020. United, though, are desperate to keep Martial and know it will take around £100million to replace him.
Martial rejected United’s opening contract offer of around £160,000-a-week but the Sun claim the club have responded with a second offer of around £190,000-a-week.
The offer – based over five years – would equate to £45m over the duration of the contract and would make Martial one of the highest paid players at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman has put his troubles with Jose Mourinho behind him so far this term and has started each of the last six matches for the Red Devils.
Martial knows he would not be short of suitors should he choose to leave the Theatre of Dreams and United fear he could become a superstar elsewhere. The report claims the talks will begin with Martial’s representatives this week and that United are hopeful of an agreement.
