Eden Hazard appeared close to tears in the wake of Chelsea’s 6-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday.
Last week, the Belgium international sparked fresh speculation surrounding his future by revealing in an interview with RMC Sport that he has already made a decision about if he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
Hazard will have just a year remaining on his contract with Chelsea this summer and has made no secret of the face that he would welcome the chance to play for Real Madrid.
And the 28-year-old may have taken another step closer to the exit door after Sunday’s result as Maurizio Sarri’s side were smashed by the reigning Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium.
And Hazard’s reaction at full-time said it all as he looked visibly upset by his side’s woeful performance. The defeat has seen Chelsea slip to sixth in the table and one point behind Manchester United who now occupy fourth place.
At the start of the season, Chelsea went unbeaten in 18 matches in all competitions but since then they have seven times in 21 games.
And Sarri admitted after the heavy defeat to City that his side are ‘in trouble’. ‘I’m surprised because at the beginning of the season we played better away than at home so I don’t know what has happened but at the moment we are in trouble,’ said the Chelsea manager.
‘In the last three or four matches we were without a reaction from the first difficulty so we need to understand.
‘It is difficult to describe our performance, it’s difficult also to understand. We started well but after four minutes we conceded a goal in a stupid way. ‘We had only to stay in the match but the reaction was not good.
In the 20 minutes after the first goal we made a lot of mistakes against the wrong opponents because they played some fantastic football.’
